{"id":1822,"date":"2025-01-07T20:42:06","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T19:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lequotidien-deconstantine.dz\/?p=1822"},"modified":"2025-01-07T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T19:42:10","slug":"facebook-and-instagram-get-rid-of-fact-checkers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lequotidien-deconstantine.dz\/?p=1822","title":{"rendered":"Facebook and Instagram get rid of fact checkers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Meta is abandoning the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram, replacing them with X-style \u00ab\u00a0community notes\u00a0\u00bb where commenting on the accuracy of posts is left to users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a video posted alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2025\/01\/meta-more-speech-fewer-mistakes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a blog post<\/a> by the company on Tuesday, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said third-party moderators were \u00ab\u00a0too politically biased\u00a0\u00bb and it was \u00ab\u00a0time to get back to our roots around free expression\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move comes as Zuckerberg and other tech executives seek to improve relations with US President-elect Donald Trump before he takes office later this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump and his Republican allies have criticised Meta for its fact-checking policy, calling it censorship of right-wing voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking after the changes were announced, Trump told a news conference he was impressed by Zuckerberg&rsquo;s decision and that Meta had \u00ab\u00a0come a long way\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked whether Zuckerberg was \u00ab\u00a0directly responding\u00a0\u00bb to threats Trump had made to him in the past, the incoming US president responded: \u00ab\u00a0Probably\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meta is abandoning the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram, replacing them with X-style \u00ab\u00a0community notes\u00a0\u00bb where commenting on the accuracy of posts is left to users.
