The Algerian national football team is in full preparation mode ahead of a highly anticipated friendly against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, kick-off at 17:30 local time. The match represents a critical step in Algeria’s meticulous build-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place from December 21 to January 18.
The team held an intensive training session on Saturday at a secondary pitch within King Abdullah Stadium. Players underwent a combination of rigorous physical conditioning, tactical drills, and match-simulation exercises under the close supervision of head coach Vladimir Petkovic. The atmosphere was described as highly focused, reflecting the team’s determination to sharpen every aspect of their game ahead of facing a challenging Saudi side.
Algeria enters this encounter buoyed by a 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in their opening friendly. Goals from Baghdad Bounedjah, Amoura, and Hadjam showcased the squad’s attacking versatility and cohesion. For Petkovic, the upcoming match represents more than a friendly: “Playing against Saudi Arabia is a valuable test. They recently defeated the African champions Ivory Coast, and we must be at our best to measure ourselves against strong opposition.”
Historically, Algeria and Saudi Arabia have faced off seven times. The Saudis have claimed four victories, while the remaining three matches ended in draws. This record underscores the competitive edge Saudi Arabia holds, making Tuesday’s friendly a key opportunity for Algeria to assert their tactical maturity and resilience.
Algeria also comes into the game with confidence from recent international success, having secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Last October, the Desert Foxes defeated Somalia 3-0 and edged Uganda 2-1, confirming their status as a dominant force in African football. These victories, combined with the current rigorous preparation regime, have set the stage for a well-drilled, cohesive squad ready to face one of Asia’s top teams.
