Competition for teaching positions has reached unprecedented levels, with more than 1.065 million applicants vying for 40,500 vacancies nationwide. The announcement was made on Saturday by the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Sghir Saadaoui.

Speaking on the sidelines of a training day for education journalists held in Algiers, the minister explained that the recruitment process is now managed through a fully digital platform, introduced to guarantee transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity. Through this system, candidates can follow the progress of their applications, monitor their ranking, and correct any missing documents within the required deadlines.

According to Saadaoui, applicants are evaluated and ranked automatically based on clear, predefined criteria, minimizing human intervention and reinforcing confidence in the integrity of the process. The objective, he said, is to attract the most qualified profiles to the education sector, particularly graduates from higher teacher-training schools, universities, and specialized institutes, in order to raise the overall quality of teaching.

Beyond recruitment, the minister addressed the broader issue of education reform, emphasizing that it is a long-term, carefully structured process guided by experts rather than a hurried or improvised undertaking. Reform efforts, he noted, aim to modernize the education system while ensuring coherence and stability.

Saadaoui also stressed the importance of preserving Algeria’s national identity and constitutional values within the reform process. He reaffirmed that the Ministry of National Education plays a central role in safeguarding the country’s cultural and civic foundations, while simultaneously promoting scientific and pedagogical renewal.
